The Ergon Energy Network (including Energex) is Queensland Government’s state-owned electricity distribution and retail corporation. It serves around 2.3 million customers in urban, rural, and remote areas across the state, excluding the southeast region of Queensland, and has 761,000 retail customers.
Established in 1999, Ergon Energy operates one of the largest distribution networks in the world due to Queensland's expansive and diverse geography. It covers an area of approximately 1.7 million square kilometres.
Ergon Energy Network draws its power from a range of sources, blending conventional and renewable sources. It owns and operates 33 stand-alone power stations that provide supply to isolated communities across Queensland which are not connected to the main electricity grid. It also owns the gas-fired power station in Barcaldine which supplies electricity into the main grid.
