Bingle is one of Australia’s leading budget car insurers, specialising in simple, cheap policies. Created as an arm of the Suncorp Network in 2007, which also owns Suncorp, AAMI and Shannons, what sets it apart from some of the other popular Australian insurers is its focus solely on car insurance and its online-only presence.

We break down the inclusions and exclusions of Bingle’s car insurance policies in our review. Learn more about the ins and outs of Bingle’s products today!

Disclaimer: all coverage offered by Bingle is subject to the terms and conditions of your policy. Limits and exclusions apply. Please refer to your Product Disclosure Statement (PDS) or contact Bingle if you’re unsure about what is and isn’t covered.

What car insurance policies are available through Bingle?

Bingle offers the following types of car insurance to Australian drivers:

Comprehensive Car Insurance

Bingle’s Comprehensive Car Insurance is its most expensive policy, offering the most coverage. Crucially, comprehensive insurance offers protection for damage to your vehicle due to accidents and collisions, which isn’t the case with third party policies. Bingle’s policy includes the following coverage areas:

  • Loss of or damage to your car due to a driving accident, nature, such as fire, storm or hail, or theft or malicious damage, up to its market value
  • Legal liability for damage to other people’s property caused by your car, or caravan or trailer attached to your car, up to $20 million
  • Reasonable cost of towing and storing your vehicle if it’s deemed unsafe to drive after a covered event
  • Automatic cover for most legal accessories and modifications
  • Cover available for rideshare drivers
  • Reasonable cost of replacing child seats and baby capsules stolen or damaged in a covered incident up to $500
  • Reasonable cost of emergency accommodation and travel to your next destination if your car is deemed unsafe to drive
  • Bingle lifetime repair guarantee
Third Party Car Insurance

Their second, cheaper car insurance policy, Third Party Car Insurance is more barebones in terms of its coverage. If you purchase this policy through Bingle, you can expect the following inclusions:

  • Legal liability for damage to other people’s property caused by your car, or caravan or trailer attached to your car, up to $20 million
  • Cover available for rideshare drivers

Are there any optional extras available through Bingle?

Yes – Bingle offers several optional extras on their comprehensive car insurance policies. These are:

  • New for old vehicle replacement cover for vehicles up to three years of age
  • Unlimited no-excess claims for windscreen, window or sunroof glass damage
  • Copycat Cover, enabling you to drive another car with the same level of cover you already have if your car is unsafe to drive due to a covered event
  • Hire Car cover for a vehicle of a similar make and model to your vehicle (or up to $50 per day if none can be found)

What are some of the pros and cons of buying car insurance through Bingle?

  • Cheap policies available: Bingle offers some of the most affordable policies on the market, providing you with cheap options when it comes to your car insurance.
  • New for old replacement up to three years: while other insurers cap the maximum age your vehicle can be to qualify for a new replacement at two years, you can replace a car up to three years old with Bingle (subject to T&Cs).
  • Cover for rideshare drivers available: you can also access cover if you’re a rideshare driver on either of their policies, allowing you to claim for covered damage caused to your car or third party property while you’re on the job.
  • Limited protections on Comprehensive Car Insurance: in comparison to most other comprehensive policies, Bingle’s offering is more light on in terms of coverage, with no personal effects cover (aside from baby seats), agreed value options or choice of repairer.
  • No uninsured driver cover for Third Party Car Insurance: even if you’re not at fault for an incident with an uninsured driver, your Bingle Third Party Car Insurance doesn’t offer any cover for damage to your vehicle.

Common questions about Bingle car insurance

Does Bingle offer any roadside assistance?

No – Bingle doesn’t offer a roadside assistance service in conjunction with their car insurance products, so you’ll need to purchase this cover elsewhere if you need it.

Can I be covered as an L-plater or P-plater?

Yes – L-platers and P-platers can both be covered by Bingle’s car insurance. L-platers don’t need to be listed on the policy, provided they’re driving with one of the car’s listed drivers.

In what states does Bingle operate in Australia?

Bingle offers car insurance in all Australian states and territories.

How do I make a claim through Bingle?

Through Bingle, you can lodge your claim online 24/7. There’s no option for you to do this over the phone, however, which is a service offered by some other providers.
