What car insurance policies are available through Suncorp?

Suncorp offers the following types of car insurance to Australian drivers:

Comprehensive Car Insurance

Comprehensive car insurance offers the most wide-ranging cover of the different types of car insurance, though generally at higher cost. Suncorp offers three tiers of comprehensive insurance, each with increasing levels of coverage: Comprehensive, Comprehensive Extras and Comprehensive Advantages. Comprehensive Extras and Comprehensive Advantages have more optional cover options available or included, but all three levels cover:

  • Accidental loss or damage to your car caused by incidents such as hail, storm, flood, fire, theft, malicious damage, vandalism, collision and impact
  • Accidental loss or damage to another person’s vehicle or property (up to $20 million)
  • A hire car after theft for up to 21 days
  • A hire car after a not-at-fault incident until your car is repaired and returned or the claim settled
  • If your car is less than two years old and is stolen or damaged and deemed a total loss, it will be replaced with a new one
  • Up to $1,000 per incident for emergency repairs, emergency accommodation more than 100km from home or accidental loss or damage to personal property in the car
  • Lost, damaged or stolen tools of trade if the tools are in your locked car or a locked toolbox attached to your car, up to $1,500
  • Transport costs from the incident scene to your destination, to and from the repairer, and to and from a hire car provider, up to $250
  • Towing and storage costs if your car is damaged and not roadworthy or safe to drive
  • Replacement of stolen or damaged baby capsules and child seats, up to $750 per item per incident
  • Accidental loss or damage to your trailer when it is attached to your car, with a limit of up to $1,000 per incident
  • Legal liability and associated costs when using a substitute car while your car cannot be driven
  • Damage caused by collisions with uninsured drivers if your car is not at fault, with a limit of up to $5,000 for repairs
  • Legal liability and associated costs for damage caused by your caravan or trailer to another person's vehicle or property
Fire, Theft & Third Party Property Damage Insurance

This type of insurance doesn’t cover accidental damage to your vehicle but does include protections against damage sustained due to theft and fire, as well as damage caused by your vehicle to other vehicles and property. Suncorp’s policy offers the following inclusions:

  • Accidental loss or damage to your car during the period of insurance caused by fire and theft
  • Legal liability for damage to other people’s property arising from the use of your car, with a maximum coverage of $20 million per incident

  • Coverage for emergency repairs to make your car roadworthy, emergency accommodation costs, and accidental loss or damage to personal property in the car during the incident
  • A hire car after the theft of your car for up to 21 days
  • Coverage for tools of trade for loss or damage if your car is damaged in a covered incident or stolen
  • Coverage for transport costs from the incident scene to your destination, to and from the repairer, and to and from a hire car provider

  • Coverage for the replacement of stolen or damaged baby capsules and child seats
  • Coverage for legal liability and related expenses when using a substitute car while your own car is inoperable
Third Party Property Damage Insurance

This is the most basic form of optional car insurance in Australia, designed to cover damage caused to other people’s property, rather than to your own vehicle. Suncorp’s policy offers the following inclusions:

  • Coverage for legal liability for damage to other people's property from the use of your car, up to $20 million per incident
  • Hire car provision if your car is damaged and undriveable, and you are not at fault
  • Coverage for liability and associated legal costs when using a substitute car
  • Coverage for damage caused by uninsured drivers, provided your car is not at fault and necessary information is provided, up to $5,000 per incident
  • If your car is damaged by an uninsured driver, you will also be covered for:
    – Transport costs to/from the incident scene, repairer and hire car provider, up to $250 per incident
    – One tow and storage costs if your car is undriveable or requires storage
  • Liability coverage for third-party property damage caused by caravans or trailers towed by your car, up to $20 million
Compulsory Third Party Insurance

Suncorp is one of four CTP insurance providers in Queensland. CTP insurance is a mandatory requirement for all car owners in Australia, covering a driver’s liability for injuring or killing other road users when behind the wheel. Cover may include:

  • Medical treatment
  • Rehabilitation
  • Care costs
  • Loss of income
  • General damages

Are there any optional extras available through Suncorp?

Yes – Suncorp’s comprehensive policies offer a number of optional extras, though these are not available on its third-party car insurance plans. These include:

  • Choice of repairer: policyholders can choose to let Suncorp arrange car repairs or choose their own repairer.
