What car insurance policies are available through Stella?

Stella currently has one car insurance plan on offer:

Comprehensive Car Insurance

Comprehensive coverage offers the most extensive coverage you can get for your vehicle, providing a greater level of protection than other types of car insurance. Stella’s Comprehensive Car Insurance has the following inclusions:

  • Coverage for accidental loss or damage to your car resulting from incidents including collision, theft, fire, weather events and malicious damage
  • Legal liability up to $30 million
  • New car replacement if your car is less than 3 years old and has driven less than 60,000km
  • Replacement of stolen or damage baby capsules and child seats in your car
  • Up to $2,000 for damaged or stolen baby gear
  • Up to $1,000 for damaged or stolen personal items in the car
  • Up to $100 for transportation expenses to get to your destination if your car is unsafe to drive
  • Up to $1,000 for essential accommodation and transport expenses if your car is unsafe to drive and you are more than 100km from home
  • Reasonable towing and storage costs
  • Rental car after theft or attempted theft for up to 14 days, and after a not-at-fault car accident
  • Up to $500 for essential temporary repairs
  • Up to $1,000 coverage for trailer damage or theft when attached to the car
  • Up to $50 for transport to and from repairers
  • No excess applied for claims arising from deliberate acts by a current or former spouse or partner reported to the police
  • Coverage for the cost of replacing or recoding car keys if stolen (excess payable)
  • Automatic transfer of policy cover to a replacement car for up to 14 days
  • No excess to repair a damaged windscreen, sunroof or window glass

Are there any optional extras available through Stella?

Yes – Stella has a choice of optional extras on its Comprehensive Car Insurance plan:

  • Hire car – extra: a hire car after an event other than theft, attempted theft or a not-at-fault accident, for up to 14 days
  • ‘No excess’ windscreen: no excess payable to replace your car’s windscreen, sunroof or window glass

What are some of the pros and cons of buying car insurance through Stella?

  • Extensive baby equipment cover: damaged or stolen children’s car seats will be replaced, and baby gear is covered up to $2,000.
  • Domestic cover: no excess for claims related to deliberate damage caused by a current or former spouse or partner reported to the police.
  • Generous personal effects cover: up to $1,000 for personal items within the car such as clothes and medical devices.
  • No choice of repairer: your car must be fixed by a repairer that’s part of Stella’s Accredited Smash Repairer Network or another repairer of Stella’s choice.
  • Limited optional extras: Stella currently offers only two optional extras on its Comprehensive Car Insurance plan.

Common questions about Stella car insurance

Does Stella offer roadside assistance cover?

Yes – Stella offers roadside assistance as a separate service you can purchase to on top of your car insurance policy. This means you can elect to buy roadside assistance without the requirement of having an active policy, and any use of roadside assistance does not count as a car insurance claim.

Can I buy Stella car insurance if I am not a woman?

Yes – while Stella’s policies are designed with women in mind, anyone can buy insurance from Stella regardless of gender.

How do I make a car insurance claim with Stella?

Currently claims can only be lodged over the phone with Stella’s claims specialists, who are available 24/7. When making a claim, you will need:

  • Your policy number
  • Details of the incident
  • Details of other people involved
Can anyone drive my car with Stella car insurance?

Yes – your policy provides coverage for anyone who meets the terms and conditions and drives your car, including learner drivers under supervision. However, an additional excess may apply in the event of an incident and drivers under the age of 25 may be subject to an additional age excess.

While it is not necessary to list all drivers on your policy, Stella recommends adding frequent drivers – this can be easily changed when needed.
