Velocity frequent flyer program has three tiers, also known as levels, above the entry-level tier that come with benefits that can be unlocked by the number of points you have accumulated on your card. The Velocity gold status card comes with a range of benefits that can be enticing, but are they worth it? Here is what you need to know.
What is a Gold status?
The Gold status is a tier above the silver status that can be achieved when your credit balance reaches 500 and you have flown with four eligible sectors within the 12 month benefit period allocated to your card. However, it is important to note that you will need to earn 400 status Credits and fly four eligible sectors to maintain the card. This means failing to do this can see your status being removed along with the benefits. Therefore, it is important that you assess if you will be able to afford the card before getting it.
What are the benefits that you can get with a Gold Status?
If you are wondering if the Gold status frequent flyer card is worth your time and dime, the first place to stop at is its benefits. Velocity has included a range of premium perks such as:
- Lounge Premium Entry. Get access to Virgin Australia Sydney and Brisbane Lounge entry and their Premium Valet.
- Earn more points. Gold status lets you unlock 75% more points when compared to Red members and 25% more than Silver status members.
- Flight privileges to fly ahead. You can request to fly ahead to your destination with an earlier flight which is subject to availability and class that you book.
- Priority boarding. You can choose to board any time when you fly with Virgin Australia. You can do this by using the priority boarding lane or business class lane.
- Global lounge access. Rest in style with access to 150 participating international airline partner lounges. Your access may not be automatic unless if you are able to present your ticket and Gold Velocity membership card.
- Extra baggage allowance. You can squeeze in an additional checked bag.
- Check-in counters. The card allows you to skip the long queues by gaining quick access through the economy check-in.
- Quick access to security check lanes. Get access to an expedited security and passport control lanes at selected airports.
- Family benefits. You are guaranteed four return Economy Reward Seats to any destination within Australia using Virgin Australia.
How can I maintain my card?
Once you have reached the Velocity Gold status level it will be valid for 12 months. You can assess the costs that come with maintaining the 400 status credits and 4 eligible flight sectors. This also means looking beyond the cost and seeing if the benefits that come with the card are suitable for the type of flyer that you are. Remember to read the terms and conditions that come with the card to see if it is suitable for you.
