Comprehensive insurance is the highest level of cover provided by Bendigo Bank and CGU, offering more protection for damage to your vehicle among other areas. The areas which can be covered under Bendigo Bank and CGU’s Comprehensive Car Insurance include:

  • Accidental loss of or damage to your car due to collision, fire, storm, flood, theft, attempted theft, vandalism or a malicious act
  • Up to $30 million in legal liability cover for damage to other people’s property caused by you or another individual driving your car
  • Reimbursement for personal items damaged in a covered incident or stolen from your locked car (up to $1,000)
  • Cover for damaged or stolen baby capsules or child seats inside your car
  • Reimbursement of reasonable costs for a hire car of a similar or the same make and model after theft or attempted theft until your car is repaired or claim is settled, up to a maximum of 21 days and $100 per day
  • Reimbursement of reasonable costs for towing and storing your vehicle if it's deemed unsafe to drive after a covered event, capped at one tow per coverage period
  • Replacement of your car with a new model if it’s a total loss less than three years and 50,000km after initial registration
  • Coverage for emergency or temporary repairs to ensure your car is safe to drive (up to a limit of $800)
  • Reimbursement of reasonable costs for emergency transport home or accommodation if your car is deemed unsafe to drive due to a covered incident and you're over 100km from home (up to $500)
  • If your keys are stolen, coverage for recoding and repair of your car's locks and barrels (up to a limit of $1,000)
  • Reimbursement of costs for transporting your vehicle to or from a repairer if a covered incident takes place over 100km from your home (up to $500)
  • Cover for damage to, or loss of, a trailer attached to your vehicle (up to $1,000)
  • If the driver of your vehicle dies as a result of a covered event, up to $5,000 can be paid to their estate for funeral expenses
  • Coverage for the reasonable cost of debris removal from the scene of the accident in which it was damaged
  • Cover for the cost of legal representation before a coroner for a matter relating to the incident (up to $5,000)

Third Party Fire and Theft Car Insurance

Third party fire and theft cover stands in between comprehensive and third party property damage in terms of its price and inclusions. When buying this through Bendigo Bank, you can expect the following covered areas:

  • Accidental loss of or damage to your car due to fire, theft or attempted theft
  • Up to $30 million in legal liability cover for damage to other people’s property caused by you or another individual driving your car

  • Coverage for emergency or temporary repairs to ensure your car is safe to drive (up to a limit of $800)
  • Reimbursement of reasonable costs for emergency transport home or accommodation if your car is deemed unsafe to drive due to a covered incident and you're over 100km from home (up to $500)
  • If your keys are stolen, coverage for recoding and repair of your car's locks and barrels (up to a limit of $1,000)
  • Reimbursement of costs for transporting your vehicle to or from a repairer if a covered incident takes place over 100km from your home (up to $500)
  • Coverage for the reasonable cost of debris removal from the scene of the accident in which it was damaged

  • Damage to your vehicle caused by an uninsured driver (up to $5,000)
  • Quality of repairs guaranteed by CGU
Third Party Property Damage Car Insurance

The cheapest and least comprehensive cover, third party property damage is designed more to protect you against having to fork out large sums in the event you damage someone else’s property. Bendigo Bank and CGU’s Third Party Property Damage Car Insurance includes:

  • Up to $30 million in legal liability cover for damage to other people’s property caused by you or another individual driving your car
  • Cover for the cost of legal representation before a coroner for a matter relating to the incident (up to $5,000)
  • Damage to your vehicle caused by an uninsured driver (up to $5,000)
  • Quality of repairs guaranteed by CGU

Are there any optional extras available through Bendigo Bank?

Yes – Bendigo Bank offers several optional extras on its Comprehensive Car Insurance policies. These are:

  • Reimbursement of reasonable costs for a hire car after a covered event until repairs are completed (or costs paid) or claim settlement is finalised
  • Covered claims for repair or replacement of windscreen or window glass not having an applicable excess or effect on your no-claim bonus
  • No-claim bonus protection, which can either be for one or all at-fault claims over your coverage period.

What are some of the pros and cons of buying car insurance through Bendigo Bank?

  • Generous liability cover: you can access up to $30 million in legal liability cover in the event you damage someone else’s property with your vehicle, which is often capped at $20 million elsewhere.
  • Choice of repairer available: provided it fits within CGU’s requirements, you can choose your preferred repairer if your car sustains damage which is covered by your policy.
  • Flexible no-claim bonus protection: as an optional extra, you can choose to add protection for your no-claim bonus either for one single at-fault claim per period of insurance or all at-fault claims.
  • Hire cars not covered after not-at-fault accident: unlike many insurers, CGU doesn’t offer automatic cover for a hire car after a covered not-at-fault incident, requiring you to purchase this as an added extra.
  • No stolen key replacement: although the recoding of your car’s locks and barrels can be included in the event your keys are stolen, you can’t access cover for replacing the keys themselves under these policies.
