What car insurance policies are available through ING?

ING offers the following types of car insurance to Australian drivers:

Comprehensive Car Insurance

Comprehensive car insurance is the policy which generally offers the most extensive coverage, which is the case with ING. The areas which are covered under ING’s Comprehensive Car Insurance policies include:

  • Accidental loss of or damage to your car, such as due to storm, flood, hail, fire, collision, theft, attempted theft or malicious act
  • Legal liability for damage to other people’s property caused by your car, up to $20 million
  • Reasonable cost of towing and storing your vehicle if it’s deemed unsafe to drive after a covered event
  • Reasonable cost of a hire car after theft or attempted theft for up to 14 days (maximum of $1,000)
  • Reasonable cost of a hire car after a not-at-fault accident until repairs are completed, your claim is paid or repair costs are paid
  • New car replacement for vehicles which are declared a total loss within two years or 40,000km of initial registration
  • Replacement of stolen car keys or remote and recoding of your car’s locks (up to $1,000)
  • Cover for damage to, or loss of, your trailer or caravan in a collision (up to $1,000)
  • Reasonable cost of emergency transport home or accommodation if your car is deemed unsafe to drive (up to $200 per day and $1,000 in total)
  • Cover for damaged or stolen personal items inside your car (up to $500)
  • Cover for damaged or stolen baby capsules or child seats inside your car (up to $500)
  • Essential temporary repairs to ensure your car is safe to drive (up to $500)
  • Removal of debris from your car from the scene of an accident (up to $500)
  • Choice of market value and agreed value cover
  • Quality of repairs guaranteed by ING
Third Party Property, Fire and Theft Car Insurance

ING’s Third Party Property, Fire and Theft cover sits in between its cheapest and most expensive policy options both in terms of cost and inclusions. This policy can include the following areas of coverage:

  • Accidental loss of or damage to your car due to fire or theft
  • Legal liability for damage to other people’s property caused by your car, up to $20 million
  • Reasonable cost of a hire car after theft or attempted theft for up to 14 days (maximum of $1,000)
  • Reasonable cost of towing and storing your vehicle if it’s deemed unsafe to drive after a covered event
  • Damage to your vehicle caused by an uninsured driver (up to $5,000)
  • Removal of debris from your car from the scene of an accident (up to $500)
  • Quality of repairs guaranteed by ING
Third Party Property Only Car Insurance

Third Party Property Only insurance is designed more to cover your liability for damage to other individuals’ property than your own vehicle. What you can expect to come under your policy includes the following:

  • Legal liability for damage to other people’s property caused by your car, up to $20 million
  • Damage to your vehicle caused by an uninsured driver (up to $5,000)
  • Removal of debris from your car from the scene of an accident (up to $500)
  • Quality of repairs guaranteed by ING

Are there any optional extras available through ING?

Yes – ING offers several optional extras on their Comprehensive Car Insurance policies. These are:

  • Reasonable daily cost of a hire car for up to 14 days after another claimable incident until repairs are completed, your claim is paid or repair costs are paid
  • Reduced excess for claims relating to front, rear and side window glass
  • Choice of repairer
  • Roadside assistance

What are some of the pros and cons of buying car insurance through ING?

  • Online purchase discount for all policies: as of July 2023, ING offers individuals a discount of 15% on their first year’s premium when they purchase any car insurance policy online.
  • Pay your premium monthly or annually: you can choose to pay your premium in monthly instalments or one single lump sum annually, with the latter option enabling you to receive a cheaper premium.
  • Choice of agreed and market value as standard: you can also select whether to insure your vehicle for its market value or agree a higher value with ING on its Comprehensive Car Insurance policies.
  • No option to reduce excess on Third Party policies: while you can opt for a higher excess to reduce your premium on your Comprehensive Car Insurance policy, this isn’t an option with Third Party policies.
  • No cover for rental vehicles: you can be covered for the cost of hiring a replacement car if your vehicle is being repaired after a covered incident, but ING doesn’t offer liability cover while you’re driving it.

Common questions about ING car insurance

Can I take advantage of a no-claim discount with ING?

Yes – ING provides policyholders with a no-claim discount (NCD) if they go for an extended period without making a claim. The longer you go without claiming, the greater your discount will be. While making a claim will generally reduce your NCD, the following circumstances won’t result in your discount being lowered:

  • Claims for a no-fault accident
  • Claims for damage to window glass only
  • Claims for damage directly caused by storm, wind or hail
What additional excesses are listed by ING?

On top of the basic excess which applies to any eligible claim, ING will also charge an additional excess in the following circumstances:

  • Drivers under 25
  • Drivers who’ve held a full licence for less than two years
  • Drivers who aren’t listed on the policy
In what states does ING operate in Australia?

ING offers car insurance in all Australian states and territories.

How do I make a claim through ING?

Through ING, you can lodge your claim either online 24/7 or over the phone.
