What car insurance policies are available through People's Choice?

People's Choice offers the following types of car insurance to Australian drivers:

Comprehensive

Comprehensive car insurance has the most extensive list of inclusions of the different types of cover. People’s Choice’s Comprehensive plan offers the following inclusions:

  • Coverage for accidental damage to your car due to a collision, fire damage, storm or flood damage, theft or attempted theft and vandalism or malicious acts
  • Replacement cost of baby capsules and child seats if they are damaged or stolen while in your vehicle
  • Emergency or temporary repairs, up to $800
  • Up to $5,000 towards funeral expenses should the driver of you vehicle die as a result of a physical injury within 12 months of a covered vehicle collision
  • Hire vehicle costs after theft or attempted theft, up to $100 per day for a maximum of 21 days
  • Legal costs for a coronial inquiry, up to $5,000
  • Coverage for personal items damaged or stolen from your locked car, up to $1,000
  • Reasonable costs of removing vehicle debris from the site where the incident occurred
  • The cost of repairing and re-coding the locks and barrels of your vehicle after the theft of keys, up to $1,000
  • New-for-old car replacement if the car is less than 3 years old and has travelled less than 50,000km
  • Reasonable vehicle storage costs while a claim is being processed
  • The cost of towing your vehicle from the scene of the incident to a safe place, the nearest repairer or another agreed-upon location
  • The cost of transporting your vehicle if the incident occurs more than 100km from home, up to $500
  • Coverage for trailers attached to your vehicle, up to $1,000
  • The cost of transportation to your home or destination, or temporary accommodation for one night, up to $500 if your vehicle is damaged in an incident more than 100km away from home
  • Liability cover up to $30 million
Third Party Fire & Theft

This type of cover includes protections against vehicle damage or loss from theft and fire, as well as damage to other vehicles and property. People’s Choice’s policy offers the following inclusions:

  • Coverage for fire damage to the car and theft or attempted theft
  • Up to $800 for emergency or temporary repairs
  • Up to $100 per day for hire vehicle costs after theft or attempted theft, for a maximum of 21 days
  • Up to $5,000 for legal costs in a coronial inquiry
  • Reasonable costs of removing vehicle debris from the incident site
  • Up to $1,000 for repairing and re-coding your vehicle's locks and barrels after key theft
  • Reasonable storage costs for your vehicle while your claim is being settled
  • Up to $500 to transport your vehicle if the incident occurs more than 100km from home
  • Up to $500 to transport you home or to your destination, or temporary accommodation for one night if your vehicle is damaged in an incident more than 100km from home
  • Up to $5,000 for repairs if your vehicle suffers is in a collision with an uninsured vehicle
  • Up to $30 million in legal liability cover
Third Party Property Damage

The most basic form of optional car insurance in Australia, third party property insurance is designed to cover damage caused to other people’s property with your vehicle, rather than damage to your own vehicle. People’s Choice’s policy offers the following inclusions:

  • Legal costs for a coronial inquiry, up to $5,000
  • Uninsured motorist damage, up to $5,000
  • Legal liability cover, up to $30 million

Are there any optional extras available through People's Choice?

Yes – People’s Choice’s Comprehensive cover has the following optional extras available:

  • Hire car costs after an incident other than theft, up to $100 per day for up to 21 days
  • Windscreen extension: one windscreen or window glass repair or replacement without affecting you no-claim bonus or paying an excess
  • One at-fault claim protection: safeguard your no-claim bonus for one at-fault claim during your insurance period
  • All at-fault claims protection: safeguard your no-claim bonus for all at-fault claims during your insurance period

What are some of the pros and cons of buying car insurance through People's Choice?

  • No-claim bonus protection: Comprehensive policy holders can protect their no-claim bonus with a choice of optional extras.
  • High legal liability: all levels of cover have legal liability coverage of up to $30 million for any incident.
  • Flexible payment options: you can pay your premium fortnightly, monthly or annually at no extra cost. 
  • Single-tow limit: People’s Choice will only cover the cost of one tow if your car is damaged in an incident.
  • Limited windshield cover: available as an optional extra, this only covers one excess-free windscreen repair or replacement.

Common questions about People's Choice car insurance

In which states does People’s Choice provide car insurance?

While People’s Choice has branches only in South Australia, the Northern Territory and Victoria, you can purchase a car insurance policy online in whatever Australian state or territory you live in.

What types of policy does People’s Choice offer?

As well as three levels of cover, People’s Choice also offers three types of policy:

  • Motor Vehicle Insurance Policy: the standard policy under all levels of cover.
  • Nominated Driver Motor Vehicle Insurance Policy: premium calculated based on up to two nominated drivers aged 25 or over, excluding coverage for drivers under 25 unless specific circumstances apply.
  • Nominated Driver Low Kilometre Motor Vehicle Insurance Policy: limited to Comprehensive plans, with driving restricted to no more than 10,000km and the same driver age restrictions as the Nominated Driver policy.
Does People’s Choice give me a choice of repairer?

Yes – when your car needs to be repaired, you can use an insurer-nominated repairer or recommend your own. To do this, you will need to provide a written quote from your chosen repairer, which will need to be accepted by CGU.

Does People’s Choice offer roadside assistance?

No – People’s Choice does not offer roadside assistance either as a part of its car insurance plans or as a separate service to subscribe to.

What other types of vehicle insurance does People’s Choice offer?

On top of car insurance, People’s Choice also offers insurance for caravans, motorcycles and boats.
