A checklist for before you apply for Volkswagen car finance
Ensure you’re eligible
The first step you should always take before applying for car financing is to determine whether you qualify as a finance customer. Each lender differs when it comes to the specifics of their eligibility criteria; some are more welcoming of complicated credit histories than others, for instance. However, the following points are likely to apply across the board:
- Applicants must be at least 18 years of age or older
- Applicants must hold Australian citizenship, permanent residency or certain acceptable visas if you’re a non-resident
- Applicants must be earning at least $26,000 annually, all coming from a stable income source or multiple.
Work out how much you can borrow
Running the numbers on how much you’re able to borrow as part of a car finance deal is another important aspect of the process. Doing this before you apply will save you valuable time and worry about what you can afford to take on and what you’re likely to be approved for.
Based on your income and expenses, we can run a calculation on the amount you’re likely to be approved for on a car loan, so your consultant will let you know if you can afford more or less than the amount you were originally looking for.
Find the type of car you’re after
It’s useful to have an idea of the type of car you want before submitting your application. If you simply enter the process with just “Volkswagen” in mind, you’re less likely to accurately find the specific model that you want and need.
As such, it’s important to do your research and assess your individual needs when it comes to your chosen model. If you’re single, for instance, you might only want a Polo, while a business that needs to ferry around machinery or equipment is likely to look more towards a Transporter van.
Review your credit report
Your credit rating and history will also have a significant bearing on the success of your application, so you should always know your personal situation before applying. This file records all instances of your servicing of debt over the past few years, such as bill and other loan payments.
Your consultant reviews your file in the application process also. We do this to gain an understanding of you as a borrower and assess the types of loans you’re likely to be approved for. This also gives you the opportunity to review it yourself and correct any errors that may be present on the file.
Sort out your documents
Finally, having your documents ready is a great way to avoid having your car loan held up. If you want to have it processed as quickly as possible, submitting all of the right documents at the right time is a great way to help it along the way. Your consultant will advise you as to what you need to send through, which will consist of the following:
- Your last two payslips (90 days of bank statements may be requested depending on the lender)
- Your driver’s licence or passport
- A Savvy application form
- A signed consent form and credit guide
