The end of the financial year is one of the biggest and busiest sales periods for new cars, with dealers looking to hit sales targets and clear stock before the end of June. Discounts, cashback and other offers can help you make real savings on the vehicle you’re after, but it’s important to look beyond the promotion and make sure the total cost stacks up.

What types of EOFY car deals are available?

EOFY deals aren’t all the same, so it helps to know what kind of offer you’re looking at and how it could help you save:

    • Driveaway pricing: the total price you’ll pay to get the car on the road, including costs such as registration, CTP, stamp duty and dealer delivery.
    • Cashback: money back after you buy the car, usually once you’ve met the offer conditions. It can reduce the overall cost, even if you still pay the full amount upfront.
    • Fuel cards or vouchers: a set amount to spend on fuel, helping cover some of your running costs after you drive away.
    • Factory bonuses or discounts: offers applied by the manufacturer or distributor, often on selected models, older stock or run-out vehicles.
    • Free servicing or accessories: extras that add value beyond the purchase price, such as scheduled servicing, a charging cable, towbar or other inclusions.
    • Trade-in bonuses: extra value when you trade in your current vehicle, which can help reduce the cost of upgrading.

    Novated leasing EOFY deals

EOFY can also be a great time to explore a novated lease, which allows eligible employees to lease a vehicle through their employer and pay for it through salary packaging rather than a traditional car loan.

EOFY novated lease offers for 2026 include:

    • 5% off selected BYD models, including the Atto 1, Atto 2, Atto 3, Dolphin, Seal and Sealion 7, available through Savvy. That could see you save up to $3,200, on a Sealion 7 Performance.
    • 6% off eligible Geely vehicles

5 EOFY car sale traps to watch out for

    • Focusing on the discount instead of the driveaway price

A discount can lower the price of a particular car, but it doesn’t automatically make it the best EOFY deal available. What matters is the driveaway price, which shows the total amount you’ll actually pay after the discount and on-road costs are included. If you’re comparing different models, check the final figure for each to decide which offer gives you better value.

    • Being pushed into dealer finance

A discounted car does not automatically mean the finance offer is competitive. Dealer finance may appear convenient, but the rate, fees, balloon payment, minimum deposit requirements and repayment terms still need to stack up. Before signing, compare the dealer’s offer against other car loan options to find the best deal.

    • Buying last year’s stock without realising it

EOFY sales are often used to clear older model-year vehicles. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, but it can affect resale value and may mean missing out on newer safety, technology or efficiency updates. Check the build year, compliance date and model year, and make sure the discount is strong enough to justify buying older stock.

    • Paying for extras you don’t need

Dealers often try to push extras, such as paint protection, extended warranties and now EV charging that aren’t included in the advertised EOFY deal. These can be expensive and eat into any savings you make on the car purchase. Ask for any extras to be itemised separately and say no to anything you don’t want.

    • Rushing because the deal ends soon or stock is limited

EOFY deadlines are real, but urgency is also a common sales tactic. You don’t have to sign on the spot. If you feel pressured, take a step back, compare similar vehicles, check the full driveaway price, review the finance separately and make sure the car actually suits your budget, needs and long-term ownership costs.
